The FPFRE (French Teachers Residing Abroad Federation) Founded in 1932

The FPFRE is an officially recognized trade union the aims of which are the protection of the material and moral interests of the French teaching staff in office abroad and in the French overseas territories (DOM-TOM) as well as the promotion and spreading of French Culture through the world. The people who are directly represented are : - teachers, whether they are state-employed or not, whatever the contract they have made (expatries, residents, recrutes locaux), who work in primary, secondary or higher educational establishments. - staff from the administrative and managing branches working in French educational, cultural or administrative establishments (services culturels, missions de cooperation, instituts, centres culturels, alliances francaises). - Voluntary Service Oversea teachers and technicians whether they are state-employed or not.

An organization dealing specifically with the staff in office out of France

- to assert the specific rights of the staff working out of France and unlike some metropolitan trade unions, the FPFRE intends to defend careers, working conditions and specific living conditions.

A self-managing organization which is totally independent

from political parties, ideologies and politically partial unions of any kind and acts upon its own lines to defend its members with no financial support from the government

An organization attaching great value to representative pluralism

rejecting any kind of unionist monopoly militating in favour of pluralism and freedom of individual choices refusing any leading trade union being a partner to administration

The FPFRE sits in appointment commissions and joint organisms It is active in many foreign countries and negociates with the appropriate administrative services. Thanks to its action, the basic conditions of missions and remunerations have been defended and plans for the granting of tenure to staff posted abroad have been initiated.
